Over the past three months, Room One has offered a monthly free legal clinic for clients who are struggling with a variety of family law issues. Advocates refer clients to volunteer attorneys after completing a preliminary eligibility screening.
Room One will be breaking ground soon in the side yard of the Lincoln Street property to build a new Client Services Building! With a generous infrastructure grant from a private foundation and a full staff and busy programming, the time has come to expand.

Our Okanogan Healthy Youth work continues, particularly with the highly engaging Youth Leadership Council (YLC), co-led by Room One staff Keri Moore and FYRE co-founder Mady Sandoval.
Okanogan Healthy Youth (OHY) Co-Lead, Caitlin Cordell, presented the Five Year Report on our federal Teen Pregnancy Prevention grant to current and past OHY staff, board, and stakeholders.
The past year has indeed shown us the even wider disparities between those with resources, an ability to work remotely, an ability to hire tutors for homeschooling, with access to healthcare and paid sick leave, and those who lost jobs, income, childcare, housing, and can no longer keep food on the table for their families.
Without home ownership, it is really difficult to get out of poverty that cuts across generations. And yet even with the land trust homes, many in our valley have been displaced or cut off from the ability to own land or homes.
