Adulting 101 a Success
Our Youth Housing Advisory Board identified that one of the barriers to more independence is knowing some of the skills it takes to manage your life (sometimes referred to as "adulting").
Our Youth Housing Advisory Board identified that one of the barriers to more independence is knowing some of the skills it takes to manage your life (sometimes referred to as "adulting"). Depending on what had been modeled during childhood, a youth or young adult may know very little about cooking, finances, car repair, navigating employment, home safety checks, nutrition, or cleaning. Thanks to six amazing community volunteers, and coaching from the young adults themselves, we launched our first 6-week Adulting 101 series this Spring. The evening sessions were well attended and appreciated by the young people present. One said, "It's a safe place to figure out life skills!" Another commented, "Everyone who participated was kind and genuine. I know I am not alone." We will be offering our next series later this year.
