2021 Produce Program Comes to a Close
"We are so thankful for this program! Please thank the farmers for us!"
We hear this so often from community members who access our fresh organic produce. Since March we have received 1630 pounds of produce (just for fun, that's about the weight of a full grown rhinoceros!). Our growers/donors have been Willowbrook Farms, Okanogan Produce Alliance, Art Heinemann, Kelleigh McMillan, and Yonder Farm. These growers provided: microgreens, lettuce, summer squash, cucumbers, kale, cherries, apricots, peaches, melons, nectarines, potatoes, blackberries, grapes, apples, pears, plums, and winter squash.
In addition, Hoodoo Blooms Farms offered 4 or more CSA shares weekly - a whole box of food - that their supporters had made available to our clients. The Mazama Store and Fork Food Truck both donated produce when their businesses shut down due to fire and smoke. It was a privilege to be able to get this delicious, healthy food in the hands of those who really need it. The fresh produce often brightened people’s day when otherwise things were pretty hard going.
With the cooler on the porch, we do not count everyone who uses this program. But we know clients have accessed the program at least 92 times and an additional 94 walk-ins were counted for the year!
