Positive Change
It's inspiring to witness generosity in response to gaps in our public safety nets...this is the power of collective giving!
If you've been following the news, you may have seen stories like these:
In November 2025, a Portland-area coffee shop raised $300,000 to provide meals for neighbors whose food benefits were impacted by the government shutdown.
Last December, drag queen and environmental activist Pattie Gonia hiked 100 miles in heels in just one week, raising $1 million to support nonprofits working to make the outdoors more accessible and equitable.
It's inspiring to witness such generosity in response to gaps in our public safety nets. But even more remarkable is that both efforts surpassed their fundraising goals in weeks, with the average gift under $30. This is the power of collective giving!
We see that same generous spirit here at Room One, too. In 2025, 449 individuals contributed what they could. More than half of those gifts were $100 or less--and together, they added up to $457,623 in individual support.
Every dollar combines to fuel community-driven programs that support neighbors navigating the real impacts of cuts to public resources. This is what it looks like when a community takes care of itself. We would love for you to join this collective, not because any one person can close the gap--but because together, we already are.
If Room One has ever been part of your story, or if you believe in a rural community where all people can thrive, we invite you to be part of this shared effort. When neighbors give what they can, it becomes rent assistance for a family in crisis or a warm referral at the front desk or advocacy in Olympia that protects rural services. It becomes the quiet, steady work of making sure people in the Methow Valley have hope for the future and the opportunity to live, work, and play freely.
However you choose to participate, your generosity becomes part of something bigger than any one of us.
