Community Needs Assessment

Room One has embarked on a year long community needs assessment to create clear direction for social and health services in the Methow Valley.  This program is staffed full time by our AmeriCorps Vista volunteer, Erin Flahive.   Stay tuned for more information and to take part in upcoming surveys and focus groups.

Erin’s January 2012 Update:

Room One’s Community Needs Assessment completed its first phase of information gathering.
During the months of November and December, 10 focus groups took place with 78 participants.
Currently, the top five needs identified by the community are transportation, youth activities, mental
health services, child care, and medical services. Suicide was highlighted by the community as a serious
issue and a result of depression and living in poverty. Also, a major factor impacting these community
needs is the lack of employment opportunities, which many focus group participants and the general
public have expressed. Survey development is the next phase and my hope is to have surveys completed
by end of March.

It is exciting to see the public eager to share their input on the community, as well as their
interest in seeing solutions come to light. If you feel you have insight and want to share your input, my
door is always open to hear your view on social service needs of our community. Be heard and a part of
the process!

This project is made possible by the Methow Valley Community Fund. Thank you!
