Red Shed Produce provides local high quality organic vegetables free to low-income families utilizing other Room One programs, as well as to the local food bank. High quality food is a basic human need. Red Shed Produce responds with a local, home grown answer.

History:

Concerned about people's access to nutritious foods, organic farmer and mother Kelleigh McMillan created Red Shed Produce in 2007. Kelleigh has dedicated a full acre of her Sowing Seeds farm, and her own labor, to growing high quality organic produce for distribution to low-income people living in the Methow Valley. Red Shed, a program of Room One, also engages recipients directly with hands-on participation in growing and preparing nutritious food.

In its first year, Red Shed Produce provided 800 pounds of carrots, lettuce, broccoli, green beans, cabbage, and summer squash to deserving local families. Every week 12-20 low income women through the Women, Infants and Children's (WIC) program and 30 households from the Cove Food Bank in Twisp received these fresh vegetables. WIC families, including children, were also invited to the farm to plant, weed, and harvest in the garden.

This year Red Shed Produce has expanded to provide even more produce to more families in need.
